Within Steinbecks story, Chrysanthemums, the main character, Elisa Allen, is confronted with many instances of conflict. Steinbeck uses chrysanthemums to symbolize this conflict and Elisas self-worth. By examining these points of conflict and the symbolism presented by the chrysanthemums, the meaning of the story can be better determined. The first time the reader encounters conflict occurs when Elisa is tending to her chrysanthemums in her garden. As she works, Elisa handles the flowers with care and compassion; she makes certain that nothing will come to harm them as though they were her own children; No aphids were there, no sowbugs or snails or cutworms. Her terrier fingers destroyed such pests before they could get started.†¦show more content†¦In this meeting, the tinker, a nomadic man, comes to Elisa and admires her flowers. Since the chrysanthemums represent interests, the tinker is essentially admiring Elisa, and at the same time he is filling the void of attention that Elisa is yearning for; this then causes Elisa to resent her husband, but at the same time she recognizes her beauty. After she gives the tinker some chrysanthemums, Elisa takes a bath, scrubbing herself with a little block of pumice, legs, thighs, loins and arms. (278) Once done, she admires herself in the mirror. Benjamin Franklin and John Quincy Adams – these two mortal men laid the foundation for the great American nation. Since his own lifetime, Benjamin Franklin has been an American icon for success. During his life, many deemed Franklin the greatest man of the new world, and perhaps the best known in the entire world. Today, his portrait centers the American $100 bill. Franklin worked hard for his success and earned the rewards of fame and fortune accordingly. While alive, Franklin lobbied for â€Å"indefinite expansion† of the United States, a fight that Adams would take up after Franklin’s death. The Basic Foundation For My Life - 914 Words

Sequence: I use sequence first, a lot. It is the basic foundation for how I run my entire life. When a task is assigned to me, whether it be at work or home, I first think organization. I think; where should I start, what will I do once I complete that, and what is the ultimate goal. I find that I organization solves a lot of issues when it comes to completing a task, or it completes the plan. Then, after the plan is executed, you can feel a sense of accomplishment. Precision: While I may have only scored in the as needed category, I feel that I do frequently use precision in a few different ways. I find myself always challenging things when somebody says that it is a certain way, just because. I find myself asking a lot of questions to make sure I get the best/ most accurate answer I can, and use that information to make a process better. Also at work, I really like to stay In the know, especially if something is changing. Technical Reasoning: My highest scoring pattern is technical reasoning, and I find this to be very accurate. For instance at work; Instead of jumping right into a new process and struggling through individual tasks, as some of my peers do, I instead learn the system that will be used to gain further knowledge. I thought I would do a single day exploration of the Cambodian Angkor temples, thinking it was just one or two piles of rocks I d be looking at, but I needed a three day pass to see all of them and I still don t think I spent enough time. The sun was beating down hard and climbing the insanely steep stairs of each temple was exhausting with the heavy camera equipment bag stuck to my sweat-soaked back.
